This tournament was my first major national tournament that I had been too. It was around the time when I was playing heavily and was cueing very well. I decided to have a go at a new speed pool challenge that had been touring the country. This game used an electronic machine that allowed a few seconds for every shot.
The referee would press a button after each shot and the clock was stopped to rack the balls. You only scored points for each ball pocketed if you played your shot within the few seconds allowed. Also, you scored more points for potting red or yellow balls in sequence, so if you potted one red you got 10 points and if you potted a second red after the first red you would get an extra 20 points and then 30 for the next red etc.
The person with the highest points total in the allowed time won the event. I was lucky enough to pot all 7 reds in a row, then all 7 yellows in a row and then the black (which had to be taken last) without missing a ball at speed pool pace.
I was told that I was the first person to do this in the all the events that had been held in the UK.
