While visiting the UK for an extended stay I decided to play in my first UK pro tour event. I started my first match well against young Phil Burford to go 4:2 up but then played poorly to lose 7:5. I then got on a roll to win my next 3 matches quit comfortably to put me just one win away from making the last 32.
Ian West was my oponent, it was approaching midnight and it was the last match of the day.
I started badly to go behind but cmae back strongly to take a 4:2 lead. However this is where I threw the match away, I somehow managed to miss two 9 balls in the next two frames! So instead of being 6:2 up and breaking for the match it was 4:4 and I was under pressure.
I then went behind 6:5 but held my nerve to tie the match 6:6. This is where my luck well and truly ran out, twice my opponent missed and hooked me with the balls open. On the second occassion I was left with a slight swerve shot to make a long 7 ball for what would have been the match. Unbelievably the cue ball hit a join in the slate causing it to leave the table and I missed the 7 ball!
That being said I lost the match much earlier than this when I missed two 9 balls. Ian went on to finish 5th and young Phil Burford finished 17th.
Tommy Donlon beat Damian Overton 11:10 in the final.
